Biography:
Yi received her BA in Music Performance from Central South University in China. As a singer specialising in Chinese folk and classical music, she has performed in cities across China. Alongside her performance work, Yi developed an interest in how music is taught and learned, which led her to pursue postgraduate studies in Music Education at University College London, where she explored music psychology, pedagogy, and the use of technology in music education. Yi started her PhD at the University of Edinburgh in January 2023 under the supervision of Dr Nikki Moran, Dr Julie Smith, and external supervisor Dr Jill Morgan from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Her research uses interpretative phenomenological analysis to explore how pedagogical practices, institutional contexts and policies may shape students’ experiences of music performance anxiety.
