The 15th July will see 1st year PhD student Shelly Coyne fly to Brazil for 3 weeks to join other delegates for an arts and homelessness ‘occupation’ of Rio and a celebration of the artistic achievements of Brazilian performers who have experienced homelessness. A week of cross cultural training workshops and performances, as part of the cultural Olympiad, marks the second With One Voice event and the launch of the new International Arts and Homelessness Movement. This unique travel opportunity will give Shelly the chance to spend time with 11 homeless choirs in Rio during their rehearsals and performances gathering data for her research; a phenomenological study of community choir participation for singers who have experienced homelessness.
