Shelly Coyne Travels Rio de Janeiro for Research into Choirs, Arts and Homelessness

shelly_homeless_choirsIMHSD PhD student Shelly Coyne has recently returned from a research trip to Rio de Janeiro, where she took part in the launch of the first  International Arts and Homelessness Movement, which brought together delegates from 6 countries, and witnessed the Cultural Olympiad, which saw homeless choirs perform for the first time in public spaces across the city. This trip also gave Shelly the opportunity to visit homeless centres and learn about the experiences of the staff and residents, to observe the rehearsals and performances of homeless choirs, and to teach and share some of her own choral repertoire with two Brazilian choir leaders.
